How does it work?
A series of impressions and photos are sent to Align Technologies for evaluation.  The impressions are scanned into their computer system and virtual models of your teeth and jaws are created for viewing on a screen.  Following the doctor's specific instructions, they move the teeth on the screen to the desired position, and then the computer calculates the specific movements necessary to move them to this new location in two week increments.  Aligners are then created in order to reproduce these movements seen on the computer.  Each aligner is worn in succession for two weeks.  In other words, if your specific case requires 20 sets of aligners to complete your case, beginning with aligner #1 you would wear each of them for two weeks, then switch to the next set of aligners, until you reach the final set after 40 weeks (in this example, 20 sets of aligners at two weeks each would equal 40 weeks of treatment time...every patient's treatment time will vary according to the relative severity of their case).    At that time retainers would be made to make sure the teeth don't drift back to their former position.
